Veeam Adds AI Agent Monitoring and Precision Recovery to Microsoft 365 Backup

Veeam has made its Intelligent ResOps offering for Microsoft 365 generally available, introducing capabilities designed to help organisations monitor AI agent activity, identify sensitive information and recover files affected by unwanted changes.
Announced on October 15, 2026, Veeam Intelligent ResOps is available as an add-on to Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365. The service is designed to give IT and security teams greater visibility into how enterprise data is accessed, modified and protected as AI agents become more integrated into workplace systems.
Monitoring AI Activity Across Microsoft 365
The offering uses Veeam’s DataAI Command Graph to connect information about files, users, permissions, AI agents and backup protection. This helps administrators understand which information is accessible to AI tools and identify changes that may require investigation.
Its capabilities cover Microsoft 365 services including SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams and Exchange. Administrators can examine sensitive or regulated information, assess access permissions and identify gaps in backup coverage.
The system is also designed to track file-level activity associated with AI tools, including Microsoft Copilot, helping organisations investigate potentially unwanted changes to business documents.
More Targeted File Recovery
A key feature is the ability to recover individual files affected by unwanted modifications or deletions, rather than restoring a much larger environment unnecessarily.
This approach could be useful when an AI agent changes or removes multiple files before administrators identify the problem. By helping teams determine what changed and which files were affected, the platform aims to make recovery more targeted and reduce disruption.
However, recovery depends on the availability of appropriate backup restore points and the configuration of the protected environment.
Data Governance and Storage Management
Intelligent ResOps also identifies sensitive information and redundant, obsolete or trivial data. Administrators can use these insights to review access risks, evaluate retention practices and identify material that may be suitable for archiving or further review.
The offering includes natural-language querying capabilities intended to help authorised users investigate data access, AI activity and backup coverage without relying entirely on manual searches.
Availability and Future Expansion
Veeam says customers can add Intelligent ResOps to Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 without migrating their existing data or redesigning their backup architecture. The offering is available in Foundation and Advanced editions, as well as through Veeam Cloud & Service Providers.
The company has also outlined additional Intelligent ResOps integrations. Private previews for Veeam Data Platform and Okta were reported as available, while previews for GitHub, Azure DevOps and Google Identity and Access Management were planned for the fourth quarter of 2026.
The launch reflects a growing challenge for enterprise IT teams: conventional backup coverage alone may not provide enough context to understand the consequences of AI-driven changes. By connecting AI activity with data governance and recovery workflows, Veeam is seeking to help organisations investigate incidents and restore affected information more precisely.
