Apple Releases First iOS 27.2 Beta

Apple has seeded the first developer beta of iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2, just two days after iOS 27 reached the public on September 14.
The builds carry version number 24B5084k, and Apple has skipped iOS 27.1 entirely — 27.2 follows directly from 27.0.
The Health App Preview
The headline change is a redesigned, Apple Intelligence-powered Health app, included in the beta for developers to test.
Apple has been explicit about the caveat in its developer notes: the new Health app is present in the 27.2 beta for testing purposes only and will not ship as part of iOS 27.2 when that update reaches the public next month. The redesigned app is scheduled for a separate public launch later in the year.
That is an unusual arrangement, and it explains the version numbering. Apple appears to be putting a major app rewrite in front of developers early — likely so third-party apps built on HealthKit have time to test against it — while keeping it out of the consumer release cycle until it is finished.
Developers integrating with Health data should treat this beta as the compatibility testing window rather than as a preview of what users will see next month.
Why Skip 27.1
Apple has skipped point releases before, and the usual reason is scheduling rather than anything meaningful.
With iOS 27 shipping on September 14 and the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max arriving days later, the first post-launch update cycle was always going to be compressed. Jumping to 27.2 aligns the numbering with the timeline Apple intends for the release rather than forcing an interim version into a gap that does not exist.
There is no indication of a cancelled 27.1 with features that got pulled.
How to Install
Registered developers can get the beta over the air through Settings, then General, then Software Update, with the appropriate beta channel selected. IPSW files are also available for direct download.
Standard advice applies with more force than usual here: back up your device first. A first beta released two days after a major OS launch has had minimal testing, and this one contains an app rewrite that Apple has already said is not finished.
A public beta typically follows a developer beta by several days to a week, though Apple has not confirmed timing.
Where iOS 27 Currently Stands
iOS 27 was announced at WWDC on June 8, 2026, and released on September 14 after three months of beta testing.
The headline feature is the substantially rebuilt Siri, available on iPhone 15 Pro and later. Apple Intelligence expanded across apps with improved writing tools and image generation running on a private cloud model, with daily limits on resource-heavy features and higher allowances for paid tiers.
The release also brought updated parental controls, performance improvements, the Liquid Glass interface update, new Safari and CarPlay features, AirPods EQ settings, and a set of accessibility additions including conversational VoiceOver image understanding and an enhanced Magnifier.
iOS 27 runs on every device that supported iOS 26, including the iPhone 11 range and the iPhone SE 2. Apple Intelligence features require an iPhone 15 Pro or newer.
Notably, Siri AI remains delayed in the European Union under Digital Markets Act constraints, with no published timeline.
What to Expect Next
First betas rarely contain everything a point release will ship with. Additional features typically surface across subsequent betas over the following weeks, and the current build has only been in developers' hands for hours.
iOS 27.2 is expected to reach the public next month. What it contains beyond bug fixes and the usual refinements is not yet clear — and, per Apple's own note, will not include the Health app that is currently the most interesting thing in it.
